The international rules for medical research and related laws, especially laws which are valid in the “country of origin” of the research must be complied with. In the case of the Czech Republic these are the Personal Data Protection Act (101/2000 Coll.)  and the Personal Data Processing Act (110/2019 Coll.). Examples in other countries include the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”) and other U.S. federal and state laws relating to the privacy and security of personally identifiable information; the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 and implementing legislation in member states of the European Union; Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act; and India’s Information Technology Act and related privacy rules (together referred to here as “data protection and privacy laws”). The journal’s informed consent requirements are in accordance with the regulations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (“Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals”). The requirements for informed consent are included in the Ortodoncie journal’s “Instructions for authors”.
